Wedding of Sonia and Mauricio

Sonia and Mauricio were married on Saturday, August 15, 2009. This was my first Spanish wedding with a Spanish pastor officiating and having an English interpreter. That was pretty cool.

Sonia and Mauricio are the sweetest couple. Their color scheme was orange and bright yellow. As well as being their wedding planner and coordinator, I also designed and arranged all their flowers. I used my white tulle pew bows and added yellow and orange ribbon alternating the colors every other row. To add a little color to the vases for the altar arrangements, I used rainbow foam in yellow to hold the flowers. Mauricio thought it was real fruit pieces. Everyone got a real laugh out of that comment.

For the reception, we decided to alternate the colors on the tables with half having an orange underlay with a yellow sash used as an overlay and vice versa for the other half. They were very conscious of their budget, so instead of using chair covers and sashes, I suggested using just sashes to tie around the chairs. I heard great comments about this and how everyone thought it was a great idea. She wanted very simple centerpieces, so I just used two calla lilies in a 6" tall square vase alternating the colors on each table.

Sonia loves lilies, so we used orange and yellow lilies for all of the wedding party flowers. Again, to keep the budget down, for the centerpieces, I just simply used two each of yellow and orange calla lilies in 6” tall square vases. We alternated the yellow calla lilies on the orange tables and vice versa. It really made what is usually a drab room into a more colorful room.

Mauricio’s grandmother made the cake. His grandparents and other family members prepared all the food. You would never have known it didn’t come from a professional caterer. They had traditional Spanish dishes and were delicious from the comments I heard.

Another fun and “smooth” wedding.
